Chiropractic FAQs

Is Chiropractic Care right for me?
It may or may not be! To determine if Chiropractic care is right for you, it is important that you discuss any and all health concerns or conditions you have with your Chiropractor. Scheduling a consultation is always the best way for you and your doctor to determine what type of treatments will best suit your needs. Be cautious of any practitioner that does not speak with you about all of your health conditions, begins treatments without a complete physical and neurological exam, or who tells you their way is the best and only way to get you the help and results you desire. Remember, all people are not struck from the same mold! Most patients require in depth analysis of their individual issues to determine a proper course of care. At The Matlock Center, you will always receive a thorough exam and there is never pressure to receive treatment. Our job is to get a solid understanding of your current state of health and to point you in the best direction to help you achieve your goals. In some cases this may mean referring patients to other quality practitioners outside of our facility. If you would like to speak with us about your health issues please feel free to call our office and schedule a free consultation. We are always happy to try and help people get the answers they are looking for. Call us today at (908)859-0300

How long will I be under Chiropractic care?
(Is it really 3 times per week for the rest of my life?)

The best answer to these 2 questions is: It depends on you and NO...ABSOLUTELY NOT! Care plan duration depends on many contributing factors. A course of treatment will usually be determined by the following:

  • Is this an acute or chronic issue?
  • Do you have more than one issue you are dealing with?
  • Are you a compliant patient? (Do you follow through with your doctors advice?)
  • Are you willing to change your lifestyle? (Taking responsibility for your health!)
  • Do you have realistic expectations about how long it will take for you to get well?
  • Are you interested in maintaining good health once it is achieved?

Treatment plans should be laid out in the following manner.

  1. What are the patients and doctors short term goals? (First 1-6 weeks)
  2. What are the patients and doctors long term goals? (6-12 weeks)
  3. Is the patient interested in maintenance care once their primary complaints have been resolved? (6 weeks and beyond)

***Due to the variations between patients, conditions may resolve quicker than others. Therefore patients may move between levels at different rates.

What is Chiropractic?                                                                                                       Chiropractic is an overall way of looking at the human body to improve the life and health of patients. Joint motion restrictions (lack of joint movement) in the vertebrae of the spinal column (your back) can not only cause various pain symptoms but may also disrupt proper nerve function, which can lead to decreased performance of your bodies major systems (digestive, neurological, immune,etc...)  and thus your overall health.  By locating and correcting these motion restrictions via Chiropractic adjustments, the body is able to function at its full potential.

Although Chiropractors are mostly known for their experience in treating patients with neck and back pain, they also care for patients with other significant issues.  Some of these issues include: extremity pains, headaches, digestive issues, numbness and tingling, and many more.

Is chiropractic treatment safe?
Chiropractic is widely recognized as one of the safest drug-free, non-invasive therapies available for the treatment of neuromusculoskeletal complaints. Although chiropractic has an excellent safety record, no health treatment is completely free of potential adverse effects. The risks associated with chiropractic, however, are very small. Many patients feel immediate relief following chiropractic treatment, but some may experience mild soreness, stiffness or aching, just as they do after some forms of exercise. Current research shows that minor discomfort or soreness following spinal manipulation typically fades within 24 hours.

Is chiropractic treatment appropriate for children?
Yes, children can benefit from chiropractic care. Children are very physically active and experience many types of falls and blows from activities of daily living as well as from participating in sports. Injuries such as these may cause many symptoms including back and neck pain, stiffness, soreness or discomfort. Chiropractic care is always adapted to the individual patient. It is a highly skilled treatment, and in the case of children, very gentle.

Do insurance plans cover chiropractic?
Yes. Chiropractic care is included in most health insurance plans, including major medical plans, workers’ compensation, Medicare, and Blue Cross Blue Shield plans for federal employees, among others.
